International Scientific Conference on Autism and Gender

Autism spectrum disorders are a neurodevelopmental condition identifiable by persistent deficits in communication and social interaction and the presence of restricted interests and repetitive behaviours. Symptoms are very heterogeneous, as well as their intensity, becoming evident from early childhood.

Currently, it is estimated that 1 to 2 % of infants develop it. Epidemiological studies report a disproportionate sexual dimorphism (4:1). For some years now, this dimorphism has been the subject of interest for many researchers working in this area. The lines of research developed are very diverse, ranging from the more biological ones in search of protective factors related to hormones or the immune system to those related to possible biases in diagnostic instruments and procedures.  What we know is that the diagnosis of autism in women is later and more complex, and generally distorted by the presence of some other comorbid disorder.

In this conference, we will try to present the last results of the research related to this second line of investigation. In particular, this conference will present the preliminary results of the research project CIAICO 2022-145 on the under-diagnosis of autism in adult women.

From the research group PSiDEHESO of the Universitat de València, we welcome you and invite you to attend the conference.
